HARTLEY COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the names of those involved in a wreck on Tuesday in Hartley County that left one dead and one hospitalized.
A semi-trailer driven by 27-year-old Samual Garrett of Colorado was traveling north on US 385 in front of another semi-trailer driven by 56-year-old Christopher Goodson of Dalhart. A third semi-trailer was traveling south on US 385, driven by 26-year-old Cristian Soto-Ruiz of Dalhart with 26-year-old Jaciel Longoria-Acosta as the passenger.
A fourth semi-trailer was parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane.
An uninvolved semi-trailer slammed on the breaks because of the fourth semi-trailer that was parked on the shoulder.
Garrett swerved to the left and crossed over the center stripe, crashing into Soto-Ruiz. Soto Ruiz’s semi split Garrett’s in half.
Soto-Ruiz continued into the northbound lane and ran into Goodson’s semi-trailer.
Garrett and Goodson were both wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the wreck.
Soto-Ruiz was air-lifted to Northwest Texas Hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening and was later taken to Oklahoma City where he remains in critical condition.
Longoria Acosta was pronounced dead on scene. Both Soto-Ruiz and Acosta were wearing seat belts as well.
The crash is still being investigated by Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
