AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The West Texas A&M Buffs are headed to Evansville, Indiana for their second straight Elite 8 appearance. The Buffs secured their spot as one of the final eight teams in Division II after an 89-70 win over the St. Edwards Hilltoppers. Lonestar Conference Player of the Year, Ryan Quaid led the Buffs in scoring with 29 points along with 11 rebounds for another post season double double.
Head Coach Tom Brown knows the road to being crowned National Champions is only three games away but he’s certain they will be some of the toughest games they’ve played all year.
" It’s everybody’s goal. There are going to be eight teams at the Elite Eight and you have to win three games. If you win three in a row you’re national champions and if you don’t win the first one you’re done," said Brown. “Not a lot of guys remember who made it to the Elite Eight they remember who won the national title. That’s our goal and it’s probably everybody’s goal in the Elite Eight. It’ll be a great venue in Evansville, Indiana you cant get better than that. It’s the mecca of basketball in Indiana and hopefully we’ll bring our game there and show them what we have in West Texas.”
The Elite Eight is set for March 27th-29th as the Buffs try to bring a national title back to Canyon after falling one game short last season.
