Xcel Energy says power is restored to all Texas and New Mexico customers

Xcel anticipates 99 percent restoration to those affected by wind storm by end of Friday

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - UPDATE: Xcel Energy announced that after days of hard work, all of their Texas and New Mexico customers have power.

Over 600 dedicated emploees worked around the clock in the field and in support roles.


Xcel Energy says it’s nearing completion of restoration efforts after a wind storm ripped through swaths of the Texas Panhandle and New Mexico this week.

After 136,000 people were affected by power outages, the company says it has only 5,000 people remaining without electric service as of Friday afternoon.

The Xcel team will be replacing 95 damaged electric poles across the region today, as well as continuing inspections on customer meter boxes and service masts.

Xcel Energy spokesman Wes Reeves says the team is anticipating 99 percent restoration by the end of the day on Friday.
