DPS officials identify driver in fatal wreck near Umbarger

RANDALL COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - Texas DPS officials have identified the driver involved in Wednesday morning’s fatal wreck near Umbarger.

According to the Randall County Fire Department Facebook page, a semi rollover early Wednesday morning left the truck on fire when units responded.

Cesar Gonzalez, 45, of Houston died on the scene.

After investigating the wreck further, officials said Gonzalez is believed to have fallen asleep, then veered into the center median. The semi rolled onto its top and caught fire with Gonzalez still trapped inside.

Officials are unable to determine if Gonzalez was wearing his seat belt due to the injuries sustained to the vehicle.

US Highway 60 was shut down through Umbarger.

All lanes of US 60 west of Umbarger have now reopened.
