Firestone Amarillo architects honored with Texas preservation award

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The architects of The Firestone Amarillo have been awarded the 2019 Preservation Texas Honor Award.

The award given to The Firestone Amarillo lofts, designed and inspired by Architect Gregg Bliss, AIA and Landscape Architect Cleve Turner, recognizes successful efforts to save irreplaceable and authentic historic places across Texas.

“For Gregg, the architect, to receive this award is a clear indication that he and his team did their best to preserve this historic piece of downtown Amarillo,” said The Firestone owner Sally Jennings.

The Firestone first openeing in the 1930′s as the Louis H. Smith Inc. Firestone Store, hailed as a one-stop shop for car care. During the building’s restoration, many of the features of the original building were preserved.

In July of 2015, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, The Firestone Amarillo is an upscale living community that was complete in 2017 and owned by Gary and Sally Jennings. The Firestone features 13 unique upscale residents and exclusive amenities.

“We cannot wait to see what will be in store for The Firestone and its current and future tenants,” said Gary Jennings. “We have created a new chapter in the continuing history of downtown Amarillo.”
