AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Some Amarillo business owners are seeing success in the area and venturing out to create new businesses.
Three of the newest businesses opening in Amarillo include a brunch spot, an all-day cafe and a new brand of a local coffee shop.
Off of Bell and 34th, sweets shop The Ruffled Cup has changed locations in the plaza, expanding the shop to include sandwiches, salads and ice cream.
"You know, I had been fighting the urge to open that sandwich shop I’ve always dreamt about, you know, and I love food, I love to eat, and I was like, ‘I think I can do it,’” said Deanna Hurt, owner of The Ruffled Cup and Butterlove Biscuits
In their old location, the owner plans to open a second business, Butterlove Biscuits, specializing in brunch.
"Me being an entrepreneur, I was just like, ‘There’s gotta be another restaurant or some other business that I can put in this space and remodel it and make it something Amarillo doesn’t have,’” said Hurt. “A biscuit restaurant had come across us while traveling and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s it.’ It’s biscuits because I’m a baker. I love to bake, I love all things sweets and with the obsession with brunch right now, it just makes sense.”
A few miles east, Brent Lancour, one of the people behind Public House and Copper Fire Grill, has opened Brent's Cafe on Olsen Boulevard, offering up food, drinks and desserts with a New Mexican flair.
"I worked in Santa Fe for a little over a decade in different restaurants and wanted to bring in that influence, those New Mexican influences to Amarillo because it doesn't exist here,” said Lancour.
He says the cafe deals a lot with local industries.
"Being a community cafe, built for the community, we work a lot with the local farmers, we're bringing in local produce and agriculture,” said Lancour.
Local coffee shop Palace Coffee is preparing to open their new project, know as The Annex, at the FirstBank Southwest Tower, including their traditional coffee menu and the new addition of health-conscious foods.
While Brent's Cafe opened just weeks ago, you can expect to check out The Annex by Palace Coffee this Monday, while Butterlove Biscuits likely won't open until late February or early March.
With a variety of new shops now open and other restaurants in the works, Amarillo business owners are keeping busy in the new year.
