PORTALES, NM (KFDA) - The trial of two women charged in the 2017 hot car death of a child in Portales is now in its second day.

The prosecution continued today with testimonies beginning with another client of the women’s daycare, Taylor Tots. The jury also heard testimonies from the Lubbock doctor who treated Aubrianna Loya after she received critical injuries from being inside a hot car, as well as representatives from the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department.

A spokesperson from the Portales District Attorney’s Office says the prosecution hopes to be finished with their case by Friday, Feb. 1. The defense is expected to begin their case on Monday, Feb. 4.

It is unclear if Mary and Sandi Taylor will be testifying during the trial.

The trial is expected to last until Feb. 7.
