AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - America’s national pastime is back in Amarillo and with a newly announced team name, the Sod Poodles, there are some road blocks ahead for the new team.

"I was really shocked, to be honest with you. I didn't think they were actually going to go that route, particularly, after the conversation I had with them with regard to the trademark situation,” said Dusty Green. “I know it was a big moment for them and a happy moment for them but I will admit I was pretty surprised."

Green, through his company Stone Ranch Media, filed for the Amarillo Sod Poodles trademark on June 2, just three days after the team announced its five team name finalists, and three days before the team applied for their trademarks.

"Honestly, Sod Poodles sounded like a good name and it was available and we kind of focused in on that and being available and we did what was legal and right and we decided to go ahead and file for the application,” said Green.

Green says he plans to keep his trademark application and create an Amarillo Sod Poodles clothing line.

We reached out to Amarillo Sod Poodles Baseball for their reaction and General Manager Tony Ensor gave the following statement:

“We are aware of this individual and we are following the trademark processes and procedures.  We are not at all concerned and will let the process play out. We could not be more excited and confident about our name, this brand, and our logo. Sod Poodles is our brand and identity. We created it, and our community brought it to life. There is no way we are going to allow an outside individual who has nothing to do with our team try to take advantage of our team and this community.”

Green says he looks forward to communicating further with the baseball team.

"They're doing their thing and we're doing our thing separately,” said Green. “Obviously, we're going to have to have a discussion in the very near future about where we go from here and I'm looking forward to doing that."

No word yet on if these discussions will go into extra innings.
