Snow causes morning traffic to back up on I-40

The snow this morning that moved through the Amarillo area shut down traffic in the heart of the city.

Amarillo police tell us multiple accidents at the interchange closed Interstate 40 in both directions.

Traffic remained at a standstill from around 7:30 to 8:30 this morning.

In addition to the interchange wrecks, a number of accidents on Interstate 27 overpasses slowed traffic between Amarillo and Canyon.

In total, officers responded to around 35 crashes this morning.

Police say a few accidents involved injuries, but none are life threatening.
