Child Porn Suspect Arrested Because Of State Network

The recent arrest of a suspected child pornographer in Amarillo is the result of a program involving the Potter County District Attorney's office.

We first told you about the Internet Crimes Against Children network a little more than a year ago.  The D.A. says this week's arrest is why his office participates.

A tip within the network from Dallas to the Amarillo investigator prompted the investigation, execution of the search warrant, and eventual arrest of the suspect.

District Attorney Randall Sims says, "it's the first one that we've been basically the main chief investigator, to get the ball rolling on the whole thing, it's the first time we've been able to do that."

The investigator often gets online and poses as a child to lure predators.

There had previously been a lag in performance because of too few staff.

Sims says, "because of manpower issues, we were able to get another investigator in here, which has freed up a little more time for our investigator to participate in the program."

And his participation is beefing up.  "This person is in the process of getting certified, then this came up, and it's something he could work on even though he's not certified to do certain things yet," says Sims.

This program is one of many across the country fighting child pornography and child predators.

Amarillo Police say the Internet company provided examples of the kinds of child pornography the man was allegedly downloading.
