Hundreds of mental health advocates from across Texas rallied at the capitol today.
Their rally cry, "Recovery is possible!"
Most of the estimated 200 people there were advocates for funding of community mental health services in Texas.
They are requesting that the state fund facilities that help with mental illness instead of sending the ill to jail.
Senator John Whitmire(D) of Houston says Texas has the resources to treat those with mental illness.
"And I get tired of the leadership of this state saying that they have to look out for all the Texans. We'll tell them that people with mental health problems are Texans too," Whitmire said.
He also says treating those patients will bring down the cost for the Texas prison system.
