Student Expelled from Austin Middle School

The 12 year-old-boy who was allegedly in possession of a loaded pistol at school has been expelled.

The Amarillo Independent School District says the 7th grader has been expelled for one calendar year from the date of the incident.

On February 17th police say they received a tip from students that the boy was in possession of a gun.

When they found the boy, they opened his locker, and allegedly found a loaded 25 caliber pistol inside it.

A committee of administrators, principals and parents held a hearing in which the expulsion was handed down.

The AISD says State and Federal laws all but require the maximum punishment of 1 calendar year, for an offense like this.

The boy has been charged with 2 felony counts, attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and places weapons prohibited.
