Several Grassfires Between Amarillo & Dumas

Several grassfires are under control after keeping firefighters busy for a good portion of Sunday afternoon.

The word from crews on scene is that they had many fires pop up throughout the day along Highway 287 between Amarillo and Dumas.

Crews at one point had to shut down traffic flow in both directions.

Firefighters on scene also tell us the fires were likely started by people throwing cigarette butts out their car windows, sparks from trailers, and hot exhaust pipes.
