HIV Tests in Texas

Some lawmakers in Texas want to make HIV screenings a part of regular doctor visits.

Legislation filed today requires doctors to offer HIV screenings during checkups for anyone between the ages of 13 and 64.

Patients would have the choice to opt out of the test.

The legislation requires insurance and Medicaid to cover the cost of the test.

In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended regular HIV screenings.
