Updated peanut product recalls

The following recalls have been announced, because the products could be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems:

Hines Nut Co. is recalling select honey roasted peanuts. No illness has been reported. The recalled honey roasted peanuts were sold in Texas between Oct. 1, 2007, and May 30, 2008. Details: by phone at 800-561-6374.

Garden of Life Inc. is recalling select protein supplement bars. No illness has been reported. The recalled bars were sold to stores and online shops, as well as directly to consumers. Details: by phone at 866-465-0051.

_ Lot number PBC553537; expiration date 12-19-08.

_ Lot number PBC550808; expiration date 03-20-09.

_ Lot number PBC550948; expiration date 04-03-09.

_ Lot number PBC551938; expiration date 07-11-09.

_ Lot number PBC552058; expiration date 07-23-09.

This recall also includes the following bars, item number 101390, contained in Perfect Weight America Success System Kits, lot 101433-k, and Perfect Weight America Ultimate Success System Kits, lot 101434-k:

Golden Temple of Oregon LLC is recalling 106 cases of WHA Guru Chew peanut cashew bars. The company said no illnesses have been reported. The recalled products were distributed nationally and sold through health food stores, mail order and specialty food stores.
