E-Mails Indicate Salmonella

Internal e-mails indicate the owner of a peanut company urged his workers to ship tainted products after receiving test results indicating salmonella.

The e-mails obtained by a house committee show the owner of Peanut Corporation of America ordered shipments tainted with the bacteria because he was worried about the loss of sales.

The owner was ordered to appear before congress today but refused to testify.

The outbreak led to more than 600 illnesses and at least nine deaths.
