Stimulus bill passes the Senate but layoffs continue

On Capitol Hill, the eagerly anticipated $800 billion plus economic recovery plan passed the Senate.

Lawmakers still have to iron out differences with the House version before they can send the stimulus package to the president's desk.

But for now, the layoffs keep coming.

Sputtering cars sales are driving General Motors to slash 10,000 jobs.

About 3,400 of GM's salaried employees in the US will lose their jobs by May 1st, and most of the remaining 26,000 employees are in for a pay cut.
