West Texas Wildfire

Eight homes have been destroyed in a 5,800-acre wildfire burning about five miles north of Abilene.

The Texas Forest Service says the blaze is about 50 percent contained this afternoon.

Firefighters used bulldozers to dig up the ground and cut down grass and brush that helped fuel the fire.

No injuries have been reported and the cause is unknown at this time.

Although most areas in the panhandle are not under a burn ban...we are only one high wind day away from a red flag warning.
