Two Amarillo Men Missing At Lake Greenbelt

A father and his son are missing after an incident at Lake Greenbelt.

The Donley County Sheriff says they are investigating two possible drownings.

A group of four men from Amarillo were hunting on the west side of the lake near Kinkade Park early Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Butch Blackburn says an 18 year old went out onto the lake in a plastic kayak to retrieve either a goose or duck.

The man was about 200 yards from the shore when he reached to grab the bird, and then capsized.

His 46-year-old father attempted to swim from the shore and save the son, but two people from the shore lost sight of the father when he was only about 40 feet from the shoreline.

The Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter as well as sonar boats from the Parks and Wildlife department have been assisting the dive team.

The lake's current temperature is 40 degrees.

The Sheriff says crews will begin searching again early Sunday Morning.
