Drug Bust in Dimmitt

The Castro County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Amarillo DEA Task Force approximately six month ago in working a narcotics trafficking investigation in the 300 block of N.E. 4th Street in Dimmitt.

The investigation resulted in the drug raid on Thursday January 8, 2009. A search warrant was conducted on the residence, which has been suspected as having narcotics trafficking.

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of 11.8 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $1,300 and 5.6 grams of suspected cocaine with a street value of $750.

Also seized during the search was $12,614 in currency and a 1996 Cadillac.  Other drug paraphernalia items related to drug trafficking were also seized.

Those arrested were: 

Raul Herrera, 53, of Dimmitt was charged with Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 over 4 grams and under 200 grams.  He was also arrested on a felony warrant for Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 over 4 grams and under 200 grams.  He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Oreda Campbell on both charges and bond was set at $200,000 on each count.

Carolina Herrera, 59, of Dimmitt was charged with Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 over 4 grams and under 200 grams.  She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Oreda Campbell on this charge and bond was set at $200,000.  She was also arrested on a felony warrant for Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 under 1 gram.  She was arraigned on this charge and bond was set at $20,000.

Carolina Herrera, 31, of Hereford was charged with Possession of Marijuana under 2 ounces.  He was arraigned by County judge Bill Sava and bond was set at $1,000.

Irene Villegas, 45, of Dimmitt was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  She was arraigned by Dimmitt Municipal judge Garner Ball.  Her bond was set at $500.
