Update: Suspect in Burglary that Turned Deadly, Surrenders

A man has turned himself in to Amarillo Police today in connection with Wednesday's homicide on Hughes street.

Justin Campbell, 19, was met by police at the Toot-n-Totum on W. 3rd and S. Georgia at his request.

Campbell was then taken to an Amarillo hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He was treated, released and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of Burglary of Habitation with Intent to Commit Aggravated Robbery.

Campbell and Daniel Haywark Bartlett, 22, allegedly tried to burglarize the house in the 4100 block of S. Hughes early Wednesday morning.

A man who lives at the home fired at them several times with a long gun, shooting and killing Barlett and wounding Campbell, who escaped.

Police say their investigation of the robbery attempt and the homicide is still ongoing.
