A gruesome scene was revealed with the rising of the sun this morning in Amarillo, and now police are searching for answers.

22-year-old Daniel Bartlett and an accomplice reportedly burst through the front door of an Amarillo home on Hughes Street with the intention of burglarizing it.

Gunfire erupted from inside and when the shots stopped, Bartlett was lying dead in the front yard.

Police first at the scene dragged Bartlett two houses down because they were unsure if the shooter was finished.

Officials say two men living at the home have been questioned and released so far, but they are looking into whether those men may be part of another offense, since they seemed to have been targeted.

Lieutenant Gary Trupe says they have one robbery reported by a neighbor at the home on December 13th

He says they were told the home was robbed another time the last two or three days of the month and neither robbery was reported to police.

Today's attempted burglary makes four at this house in a one month span.

The man with Bartlett fled the scene and police say he may be injured.
