Clovis Woman Arrested For Embezzling Tornado Relief Funds

A New Mexico woman is now facing a total of 73 counts for embezzling tornado relief funds.

Agents from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's office in Clovis arrested Lori Howard.

In 2007, she managed a financial assistance program meant to help citizens whose homes and businesses were destroyed by tornados.

But instead, officials say she accepted 145 thousand dollars from the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority, and never assisted residents of Roosevelt, Quay, and Curry counties.

If convicted on all counts she could face 81 years in prison.
