The mortality rate is the number of men out of the general population who will die from a given disease. For prostate cancer, the mortality rate for the general public is 3%, which means that 3 out of every 100 men will die from prostate cancer.1 The mortality rate is much higher amongst African American men, and the mortality rate amongst Hispanics in our area is significantly higher than the state average.2
