2008 Murder Updates

16 people have been killed in Amarillo this year alone. That includes two children, then we had officer involved shootings, and in-custody deaths.

21 year old Crystal Dawn Booker's body was discovered in this field on January 18th.

There are no suspects.

32 year old Cory Wilson was beaten and left outside Beavers Gentleman's Club on the 26th.

Daniel Fangman, a bouncer at the club, signed a plea deal for six years on manslaughter charges.

Roman Martinez allegedly shot at an officer on January 12th... And was killed on the 29th during a standoff with police.

A grand jury ruled officers were justified in taking deadly force.

Seven year old William Weschke was reportedly not given timely medical care after his mothers boyfriend allegedly beat him.

He died on February 27th.

Jason Mills is in jail on murder charges.

18 year old Andrew Santos' car was rammed into the Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union on March 2nd.

Officials say they are confident this case will be solved... No suspects have been named.

11 year old Severo Rodriguez and his uncle Jesus Rubio were killed on march 6th when Marcos Portillo reportedly opened gunfire in their home.

Marcos hung himself in the Potter County jail on June 24th.

Look out for Tomas Romero this holiday season as he may be visiting family..

He is wanted for killing Hugo Medina on March 16th.

Officials say he may have fled the country.

77 year old Max Stanhope was beaten and left for dead in his home, reportedly just for his coin collection.

Deshawnqee Williams was indicted Wednesday on capital murder charges... Since he was 17 at the time, he is not eligible for the death penalty.

Phuong Pham and Emmanuel Molina are both in jail on capital murder charges for the death of Loc Dang.

Juan Pinones-Aguilar reportedly shot Manuel Rudy Sanchez in a bar fight on May 18th.

He awaits trial.

The same day... Ernest Ray Perry died when his car went into Thompson Park lake because of a reported fight with the passenger.

Jimmy Cowan now faces manslaughter charges.

The murder of Jose Mata is still unsolved.

He was killed outside The Cafe on May 30th.

A July 4th scuffle ended with the murder of Kevin Lybrand.

An unnamed suspect has been indicted on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

David Spurgeon tried to stop his grandson from committing suicide...

That's when Jacob Howe allegedly started beating the 72 year old.

Howe was indicted Wednesday on charges of injury to an elderly and aggravated assault.

Jeff Yager, a former federal officer, is indicted for the murder of his wife Amy.

She was shot in the head inside their bedroom on August 12th.

    Vacant properties aren't just eye sores to the community. These abandoned homes increase the chance of crime, promote illegal activity, and are serious fire hazards. "Often we find that even though it might be boarded up someone has found a way to enter the structure. And as it gets cold, obviously those people may try to start a fire or something inside to stay warm. And as a result of course we get a structure fire," said Community Development Administrator James Allen. ...
