Safe-Haven Law Changed

Children over 30-days old are no longer protected under Nebraska's safe-haven law as of this weekend.

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman signed the bill this afternoon after the loophole in the law allowed the abandonment of nearly three dozen children, including some teenagers as old as 17.

Nebraska has been the only safe-haven law in the country without an age limit.

The law goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.
