Former Texas AG Jim Mattox dies

Former Texas congressman and Attorney General Jim Mattox has died.

A relative confirms Mattox died at his home in Dripping Springs, the cause of death has not been released.

Mattox was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976 and remained in office until 1982.

He then served two terms as state attorney general.

He ran unsuccessfully for governor in the 1990 Democratic primary.

Jim Mattox was 65.
