A new traffic light at Soncy and Hillside may not stop the numerous accident the intersection has seen.

About five thousand people come to Hillside Christian Church every Sunday morning, causing a headache for drivers trying to get through the intersection.

But the good news is the flashing lights are out... And the good old red, yellow, green's are in.

Some residents have been requesting a light for years.. But it wasn't possible

Paul Braun with TxDOT says, "None of the traffic counts that we did met any of the warrants to put in a traffic light."

But a recent count means the light can go in. Some in the area feel it is past due.

"We are just glad that the time is here. We are just sorry that it has taken as many accidents as it has to get us to this place."

The new light may not stop the insurance claims though.

Executive Pastor Bob Schroeder with Hillside Christian Church says, "Accidents are not the sole reason you put up a traffic light. You can put up a traffic light and cause even more accidents. Probably the rear end type of accidents."

Schroeder says they understand that... And will still do their part to keep the community safe.

"One of the things we are going to continue to do is to have our off duty police officers here during our large events, especially Sunday morning."

The 500 thousand dollar project will be fast tracked by TxDOT and is set to be completed by the next school year.

The light isn't the only change, Braun says turn lanes will be installed on both Hillside and Soncy to help improve safety.
