LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Gay rights activists have targeted Sunday services at churches that helped pass the amendment to California's constitution defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
Several hundred protesters fanned out along sidewalks leading to Saddleback Church, where the Rev. Rick Warren brought Barack Obama and John McCain together last summer for a "faith forum.'' The protesters were angered by Warren's support for Proposition 8, which overturned the state Supreme Court decision in May legalizing same-sex marriages. In Oakland, a large anti-Proposition 8 protest at the city's Mormon Temple led the California Highway Patrol to close two nearby highway ramps. In Pasadena, the pastor of All Saints Episcopal Church spoke out against Proposition 8, calling the religious community's support of it "embarrassing.''
