New Fire Department Gears Up

New Randall County Fire Department organizers are preparing to keep you and your family safe.

Starting at the first of the year the former Osage Fire Department and the Umbarger Volunteer Fire Department will operate under one umbrella, as the Randall County Fire Department.

"It's a reorganization. That's all it is," says Fire Marshall Dennis Rice. Rice says you can expect the same service just with a different name.

"Basically the county contracted with a non profit organization in Osage incorporated. We're getting rid of the contracted service and they are going to volunteer to the county instead of the third party."

And the transition will not cost tax payers additional money.

Sheriff Joel Richardson says, "Osage is donating all its equipment to the county. Titling it over to us. We will be responsible for insurance maintenance, all those types of things."

During the first year of operation the department will be run by volunteers but within four years Marshall Rice says at least five full-time employees should be hired.
