Update: Police Standoff Ends

Aftera seven hour standoff with police, a Shane Francis Kennedy was taken to Pampa Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries from a self inflicted gun shot.

The standoff began at around 11am this morning when Pampa police attempted to stop the subject for a traffic violation. The subject fled from police and subsequently had a breif fifteen minute armed standoff in his vehicle before fleeing into his residence in the 2100 block of Hamilton. Police witnessed him running into his house carrying a rifle and amunition.

Police negotiators with the assistance of the Texas Rangers had an open line of communication with the subject throughout the standoff.

A robot from the Amarillo Police Department SWAT Team approached the residence at approximately 6:25 p.m. In an attempt to end the ordeal peacefully. When the robot injected chemical agent into the home the subject shot himself. Police found several weapons in the home upon investigation.

The suspect was transported to Pampa Regional Medical Center for Treatment. LifeStar was called to transport him to Amarillo. Mr. Kennedy is currently in critical condition at North West Texas Hospital.
