A late night verdict in the Potter County civil trial against Aces Wired in Amarillo leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
The only thing that both sides agree on at this point is that the business will not be immediately shut down.
The jury began deliberating at 3:30 this afternoon. The verdict was handed down at 10:19 p.m.
The jury was given two questions to answer: 1)Was there gambling? and 2)Was the business a public nuisance?
The jury decided 11 to one that there was in fact gambling. In a civil case, the jury must decide 10 to two for a guilty verdict.
On the second question, the jury unanimously decided that the business was not a public nuisance.
That is why the business will not be immediately shut down.
However, neither side of the case, nor the judge or jury, know what punishment Aces Wired will face for the verdict on the gambling decision.
