Escapees Allegedly Stole Cell Phone Before Jail Break

Curry County inmates who escaped may have made plans with those on the outside through a cell phone they allegedly stole a week before their jail break.

The phone was stolen from a nurse at the jail. Phone records show a high frequency of calls between two and three in the afternoon on August 18th.

Officials say they had the phone through the 23rd.

It was on the 22nd inmates discovered a key had been left in a door and used it to their advantage without guards knowing.. They escaped two days later.

Records also show calls were to some inmates relatives.
