Texas Supreme Court rejects Barr request

AUSTIN (AP) _ The Texas Supreme Court today declined to keep Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama off the Texas presidential ballot.

The suit was brought by Libertarian Party presidential nominee Bob Barr. Barr last week claimed the GOP and Democratic presidential nominees should be removed from the November 4th ballot. He says they weren't formally nominated by their parties before the filing deadline.

The Texas Secretary of State's Office has said the ballot including the names of McCain and Obama was properly certified.

Pat Dixon with the Libertarian Party of Texas says the high court's decision raises the question of whether parties are bound by the Texas Election Code.

She also questions whether there is a "grace period'' for meeting deadlines.
