CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - State transportation officials are canceling an Interstate 37 contraflow order based on a northerly shift in Hurricane Ike's track.
Originally, the Texas Department of Transportation had planned to have all I-37 lanes going north out of Corpus Christi beginning Thursday morning, but the order was canceled late Wednesday afternoon.
The Evaculane on I-37, opened earlier Wednesday from Texas Highway 358 to U.S. Highway 281, will remain open for use as a travel lane.
TxDOT says it continues to monitor I-37 and other potential evacuation routes along the Gulf Coast and remains prepared to implement contraflow if ordered to do so by local officials.
