HUD Housing: One Year Waiting List

The struggling economy is hurting home sales, and it's also have a significant effect on renters. There aren't enough available HUD vouchers for all of the needy families in the Panhandle.

There are two places in Amarillo that can provide you with HUD housing vouchers.... Panhandle community services and the city's housing department. These days, more and more people are walking through those doors looking for help. Phyllis Cook at Panhandle Community Services says "Right now in Potter County the wait is about a year.

In Randall County the wait is about 6 to 8 months and for our Families in Training Program the wait is about 3 to 6 months." The Family in Training Program's waiting list is a little bit shorter than regular HUD housing because it puts those who are in college and have children ahead of others.
