123 million Americans are either struggling or suffering when it comes to money, according to a new Gallup Index released today. That's causing many local families to find ways to save money and still get their kids ready for school. With the first day of school just a few days away, many parents are hitting the stores for last minute back to school purchases...but more people than ever before are skipping out on the mall this year. Instead, they're going to consignment and thrift stores, hoping to find a bargain and save some money, since everything else is so expensive. Amarillo Family Thrift Store owner Alina Garcia says "we've definitely seen more people coming in to our store. They're buying clothes, shoes, backpacks and even school supplies if we have any left... They're buying all of it." Garcia says the most popular item this back to school season is shoes. She can't keep them on the shelves fast enough.
