Downtown Growth Goals

Downtown Amarillo is experiencing the highest office space occupancy in decades.  The downtown area has come a long way in just a few years.  In 2005, downtown commercial real estate was 70% full.

The new goal is to have a hundred percent occupancy by next year.   Shops, businesses and traffic, all signs of growth for the downtown area.  Developers are not expecting the growth to slow down.

Commercial Realtor Joe Bob McCartt, say their expectations are high.  "With in the next 6 to 12 months that the downtown market in its entirety will be 90 percent," he said.

Leaving space limited for people in the downtown area, but business booming for realtors.   "We're seeing just a lot of activity in Amarillo in general. I think the downtown is pacing at the same rate as the southwest market as far as retail," McCarttt said.

While developers say the growth is developing at a good rate.   They want to see even more businesses in this area.   Beth Duke with Center City has high expectations for Amarillo's core.. the downtown area.  "Supply and demand is already coming to be a factor because some people call me everyday to try to locate downtown and we work hard to try and find the right space for them, " she said.

The right space and venues for everyone, businesses and people... to take advantage of now and the years ahead.

Developers say an estimated 20,000 people live and do business downtown at any given time. They plan to accommodate those people with more parking and entertainment by the end of the year.
