Texas Syndicate leader sentenced to life in prison

DALLAS (AP)  A leader of the violent Texas Syndicate prison gang has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that Roy Arredondo, 34, was a Texas Syndicate "chairman'' in Dallas for two years before being arrested in April 2005.

Arredondo pled guilty in March to a conspiracy charge in connection with a federal investigation accusing him and 13 other Texas Syndicate members in a racketeering ring.

Prosecutors say the Texas Syndicate members are responsible for murders, attempted murders, robberies, drug trafficking and other crimes.

The remaining 13 members charged have all pled guilty. Prosecutors say those defendants will be sentenced within the next two months.
