EPA Denies Perry's Ethanol Request

Governor Rick Perry is overruled by the Environmental Protection Agency concerning the amount of ethanol to be produced in 2009.

The Energy Independence and Security Act, passed into law in December, requires 9 billion gallons of ethanol and biodiesel to be blended with gasoline in 2009.

Perry requested that the amount be lowered to 4.5 billion gallons on grounds that rising corn prices are affecting both livestock producers and consumers.

EPA administrator Stephen Johnson denied Perry's request.
