Plans for The Herring Building

It's one of Amarillo's oldest buildings, the Herring Building downtown. One local man has big plans to restore the Herring back to it's original splendor.

When the Herring was first built in the 1920s, it was a grand hotel with stunning ballrooms and dining areas. It had more than 600 guest rooms and was where the upper crust of Amarillo met to plan the city's future. But now, it's changed dramatically. Peeling plaster, broken granite floors, warped ceilings, a far cry from the hotel of years past.

Robert Goodrich has big plans for the building. He bought it in 1988 and has been working on turning it into condos, hotel rooms and office space ever since.

He's getting closer, he's in serious talks with several investors, but doesn't have a specific timetable. He's looking for just the right team for the job, someone with more than just financial resources. "A management team with architectural know how, historical background, drive to complete it, all those things together and they'd do a real crackerjack job."
