New Training for Local Nurses

In a new pilot program local nursing students are learning things not available to them in nursing school.

During the 10-week Externship Nursing Program at Northwest Texas Hospital, senior level students were able to work along side an RN to learn the skills and knowledge needed.

One of the three students chosen to participate in the program says the program will help her better serve our community when she graduates.

Graduate Susy Self says, "It creates good relations from the nursing student and the hospital and but also I think just as a nurse it's going to make me a better nurse once I get out into the field."

Hospital directors say the program will also be available to senior level nursing students next summer.

Students are chosen based on their GPA and an essay.
