Texas Education Agency Releases Accountability Ratings for Every School

As school districts gear up for the upcoming academic year...Texas schools find out their academic accountability rating.

Education ratings are up in Amarillo and are doing well in the rest of the Panhandle too.

The Amarillo Independent School District has 19 schools receiving the top rating..."Exemplary."

12 schools outside of Amarillo were given exemplary status as well.

Making the Panhandle home to a total of 31 exemplary schools.

Only 12 percent of all schools in the entire state have been given this status.

The AISD says it's proof of a good education.

"When they are scoring that high in all student groups then we're saying all our kids are getting high deep learning. And we're excited about that," said Stan Chatman, the Tascosa Cluster Director.

The second biggest school district in the area, Canyon ISD, had two exemplary schools.

But Canyon and Amarillo have two of the three academically unacceptable campuses.

The Travis Language Center, Arden Road Elementary and Boys Ranch High School have all been classified as academically unacceptable.

We tried to reach Canyon and Boys Ranch but were unable to contact anyone.

The AISD says it's working every day to improve.

"We just want to get better that's one of our goals. We want every campus to be exemplary that's our goal that's our focus, that's what we are trying to do," Chatman said.
