Lakshmi Nayar is the managing attorney of Reina & Bates Immigration Law Group. Since joining the firm in June 2001, Ms. Nayar has handled a wide array of U.S. immigration and nationality matters. She focuses her practice on deportation defense, family based immigration (adjustment and consular processing), citizenship, nonimmigrant visas, asylum, and humanitarian relief (including parole). She also has a special interest in assisting immigrant survivors of domestic violence and crime obtain their permanent residency.
Ms. Nayar was born in Kerala, India, and raised in Perth, Western Australia. She graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Politics and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with Honors. In 1996, she was awarded Murdoch University's Vice Chancellor's Commendation for Academic Excellence. In 1999, Ms. Nayar earned her Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Michigan, where she was the recipient of the Hessel E. Yntema Award for achievement in international and comparative law courses.
Ms. Nayar was admitted to the New York State Bar in October 2000. She was also admitted to practice in the Northern District Court of Texas in December 2003. Prior to joining Reina & Bates Immigration Law Group in 2001, Ms. Nayar volunteered at local non-profit agencies that provide immigration assistance. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the National Immigration Project. She is fluent in Malayalam.
