AISD in the Red Without Your Help

Amarillo ISD needs your help to prevent it from being millions of dollars in the red. Next year your property taxes are set to go down four cents in Amarillo.

But this September AISD is asking you to leave your tax rates the same, to help keep the district operating. Inflation is continuing to send the cost of everything up but the state of Texas is not providing the funds to meet the rising costs.

AISD Superintendent Rod Schroder says, "We are on a fixed income and we have no other source to take care of inflationary costs other than to ask the taxpayers to help us maintain our current services. "

In order to keep teachers in the classroom School Board President Linda Pitner says this tax rate needs to be approved because 85% of the budget goes to payroll.

"It will allow us to maintain the small classes sizes that we have. The opportunities students have for extra curricular activities, electives, all of the things we offer students in AISD," says Pitner.

And if education suffers Pitner says our community will suffer.

"It's important for us as a community to have a first class education system. It's a reason that businesses will want to move here. As a parent, it's what you want as far as opportunity for your children."

The election is scheduled for September 23rd.
