New Tulia Sirens

The tornado that struck Tulia more than a year ago has city officials taking extra precautions for the future.

The town currently has nine sirens powered by electricity. Town officials are looking to expand that number. They want to bring in three more battery operated sirens to the area.

City Manager Rick Crownover says the new sirens are good to have in case of a power failure. "If the electricity goes down. We will still be able to activate to warn citizens... We're excited about that," he said.

The expense of adding the extra sirens can cost more than $20,000 to install. The town received grant money from FEMA to add and install the sirens around town by the end of next year.
