The Amarillo City Commissioners unanimously approved the agreement between the city and Randall County to house inmates facing city class C misdemeanor charges.

Earlier in the day the Randall County Commissioners approved the same agreement.

The Randall County Jail is expected to start construction in three to four months. They will be adding three "pods" which have 48 cells each.

When the construction is finished Amarillo Police will begin using the facility. In return the city will pay Randall County about 55 dollars per day per inmate.

A new city jail would have cost roughly eight million dollars. Now the city will be spending only about 1 million dollars to jail it's inmates.

Once the Randall Construction is done, the city expects to decommission the city jail and shut it down.
