Portales Man Arrested In Fatal Stabbing

PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - A Portales man is accused of stabbing to death a 72-year-old man in a robbery.

A judge on Tuesday signed a warrant against 46-year-old Isaac Montano II on an open charge of murder and robbery.

Portales police Capt. Lonnie Berry says Montano had been arrested Monday on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm shortly after the death of Don Chapman.

Berry says officers found Chapman stabbed inside his home after being called by witnesses who saw Montano covered in blood.

Berry says Montano was uninjured and was carrying a knife, a firearm belonging to Chapman and Chapman's wallet.
