Grandfather Beaten to Death

An Amarillo grandfather is beaten to death, and police say his own grandson is responsible.

22 year old Jacob Howe was reportedly trying to commit suicide on Friday, when his mother walked in.

Officials say he hit her, causing her to yell for his grandfathers help. The two then entered into a physical fight... But 72 year old David Spurgeon was no match for his grandson.

Lt. Gary Trupe with Potter-Randall Special Crimes says, "He never regained consciousness from the assualt, he died from his injuries on sunday afternoon around three, however they kept him alive on life support because the family wanted to make a life gift."

Howe is now at the Potter County Corrections facility on suicide watch.

He has been charged with injury to an elderly person and assault of a family member..

Each has a bond set at 500 thousand dollars... Meaning he is being held on one million dollars bond.

Lt. Trupe says those charges may be changing as his team presents this case to the district attorney.

We will keep you updated if those charges do change.
