Youth Beds Recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is ordering the recall of more than 9,300 youth beds because of the toy chests attached to them.

The commission says the chest lids can close too quickly and entrap a child. A 22-month-old boy in California was reportedly strangled. The recall involves two youth beds by Bayside Furnishings of San Diego: the LaJolla Boat Bed and the Pirates of the Caribbean Twin
Trundle Bed. They were sold at stores nationwide from January 2006 to May 2008 for between $700 and $1,400.

The commission says the beds are OK, but parents and caregivers are urged to immediately stop children from using the toy chests attached to the footboards. Consumers can get a free repair kit.
